Running on Biodiesel Fuel

Since 2005, SSC’s garbage and recycling trucks have been running on biodegradable, non-toxic biodiesel fuel. Virtually free of sulfur and aromatics, biodiesel reduces harmful emissions by up to 20% for our fleet.

We tested biodiesel in a number of our trucks for 18 months with no maintenance issues or loss in performance. We switched over any of our trucks that could accept biodiesel and have never looked back.

Single-Stream Recycling Pilot Program

Innovating ways to make recycling even easier benefits both the environment and our customers. In 2022, we partnered with the City of Bellingham to conduct a pilot program to evaluate single-stream recycling in Bellingham’s Edgemoor neighborhood. This project held great potential for increasing the amount of material collected and reducing truck emissions while simplifying the recycling process for our customers.
